It really bothers me to see this on my bookshelf. But more, I think, it's because Merit Badges left me with such a wonderful, thoughtful feeling about life. Yes, the scrapes in which Gage finds himself are both exciting and colorful, and they do revolve around a relatively unknown war the US fought with Tripoli in the early 19th century, but, they are merely a string of vignettes designed to move the reader along through the book, but not through a story. This is an unofficial biography so, of course, there is absolutely no interview or quote made by Bruce or the guys from Maiden specifically for this book. I appreciated the Biblical context and the challenging initiatives.
